Digital Operations: Why should I care?
One of the most common things I heard while leading teams of talented professionals was, “Thanks, but it’ll just be faster if I do it myself.”
Generally this was in response to my asking someone to delegate a task to another team member. And in a specific sense, these people were probably right. It would be faster for them to do it themselves…this time. But that’s short-term thinking. Investing the time to spin someone else up on that task now would have produced time savings the next time this task came up (and every time after that).
Digital operations is kind of like that, but on an even larger scale. If you’ve had even a modicum of success, then you already have processes and tools that work (or did at one point). The question is, are they written down? Are they repeatable? Do they work for all of your team or just you? Did they work back then but now are showing their age?
Depending on your answers, it might be time to consider investing in your digital operations to enable better performance in the long run. Luckily, I happen to know a guy… 😏.
