What Systems and Processes Does My Team Need?
Funny thing about founders—they tend to have very specific opinions about how things should be done. And if they were successful enough to eventually hire some employees, chances are good that it was partly due to those very specific ways of getting things done.
Once you and your team start seeing success and growth, you’re going to be challenged by both volume and repeatability. As the expert and founder, you may know precisely how to respond in every situation. But does your team? Could you delegate mission-critical tasks to a colleague or new hire? This is an easy test of what systems and processes your team may need to formalize.
There’s nothing special about systems and processes. We all have them, but not everyone takes the time to acknowledge or formalize them. If you don’t take the time to analyze how your team has found success, you won’t be able to convey that to your growing team. But maybe if they shadow you for a bit, they’ll figure it out on their own. Eventually. Hopefully. Maybe. 🫤
Identifying someone on your team (or hiring an expert!) to do this analysis is a far better investment. You’ll get a full accounting of all the latent processes you and your team follow and ways to encourage healthy habits. If you engage the right person, you might also get recommendations around systems to support and enhance those processes.
